Making Black History 2009
If yesterday's news is today's history, then history was made last week as the Fashion Arts Xchange group http://friendsoffax.ning.com presented a tribute to "Designing Men-Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow". It featured segments on three extraordinary Black designers representing a continuum of fashion from the sixties to the present. Jon Haggins kicked it off and was followed by Edward Wilkerson of Lafayette 148(in absentia), as well as Mychael Knight of "Project Runway fame. Knight, who was feted in a sincere and moving offering from Harlem's own"TopModel"-the lovely Miss Bree Dean, is a resident of Atlanta and made it just in the nick of time despite two flight cancellations. The Black fashion component of the show, was held as part of F.I.T's February slate of events presented by the College's Miss Deborah Payton-Jones, and was conceived and developed by the F.A.X. http://friendsoffax.ning.com/ group's Founder / Chair Gwenveria Sargeant. The F.A.X.organization has been hosting similar events since 1994.
